Welcome back to the latest blog in the interview question tips series. This week I have decided to focus on the ‘interview question what do you know about the company?’ Now, this is a question that you seriously need to prepare for, it would be impossible for you to guess what the company does, and their core values.
So, how do you approach preparing for this question? I will provide you with some tips on how to answer this question when in your future interviews. Take a look at these:
- Look at the company website: If you look at any company’s website, it will tell you what they do, how they do it, and the company’s core values. Knowing about their core values will allow you to tailor your ideologies to coincide with that company’s.
- Use Google to research the company: Try typing the company name in the google search engine to see what else has been said about them recently. You may see sites such as ‘glass door’ whereby ex-employees discuss their experiences with the company (be it positive or negative). Searching the company could also show news articles to inform you of any philanthropic work the company has carried out. If you find out anything positive like that, be sure to mention it!
- Check the company’s social media profiles: Check out the company’s Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram. Looking at multiple platforms will keep you up to date with their news, and what is trending in that sector at that moment. Showing that you have completed extensive background research will highlight to the interviewer that you are the perfect candidate for the job.

“I saw a story a few months ago on the news about the outreach your company does with the community. Giving back is a big part of my personal philosophy and I was excited to see that there was a company that felt the same way. You can imagine how excited I was when I found out there was a job opening in my skill-set here. I would really hope to be able to come to work every day to a place where I knew not only are my technical skills valuable, but my personal philosophies are as well.”
Looking at this answer at first glance it seems long, however, it incorporates all of the right things that will impress an interviewer i.e. the company’s values, and how they align with that of the interviewee.
